Who we are
An association was formed in 1957 following enquires made by John Carr to locate ex Warriors who were at Christmas Island for Britain’s first Megaton Nuclear Bomb tests known as Operation Grapple. As a result our first reunion was held at a hotel in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham. A fantastic weekend was enjoyed by all, especially as old shipmates met up for the first time in 42 years. A bunch of Naval Airman who used to share the same mess were overwhelmed. The RNA at Tamworth invited us to their club
Many thanks to Ron Coates (unfortunately no longer with us) the evening was a great success.
Since then membership has increased with members coming from other commissions such as trooping duties between UK and Korea, a far east duty station which saw Warrior transport over 3000 refugees from North to South Vietnam, for which the ship and crew were awarded a Presidential Citation and the Ribbon of Friendship.
Further reunions have been held at Blackpool, Portsmouth, Liverpool, Plymouth, Coventry, Torquay and Llandudno.
Our primary aims are to firstly find as many Warriors from the commissions covered by the years 1946-1958 as we can.
Secondly, is to bring as many of those Warriors as want to, together at an annual reunion. Not all members come to reunions, in fact some have never come to a reunion, but it is not a condition of membership that you should attend. We are about more than just reunions. But it should be said that we have a great deal of fun at them.
If you qualify for membership i.e. you served on H.M.S Warrior (R31) during the years 1946-1958 on joining you will receive by return of post the latest newsletter (produced three times a year) and most importantly a full address list of members that served on the Warrior at the same time as you. To join this exclusive club all we ask is £12 per year subscription, payable on 1st January each year, or pro rata. Please make your cheque or PO payable to A.J.
