The Ship's Bell
The
Ship’s Bells which WARRIOR had acquired during her service with the Royal
Canadian Navy and the Royal Navy were disposed of during 1959, and 20 years
lapsed before any attempt was made to establish their whereabouts. The Main
Bell of HMS WARRIOR was finally traced to the Canadian Forces Base at
Shearwater. In a very generous gesture the Canadian Maritime Commander, Vice
Admiral J Allan OMM, CD authorised the return of this bell to the United
Kingdom. It was brought back across the Atlantic in HMCS HURTON and Admiral
Allan, who had himself served in WARRIOR, formally handed the bell back to the
Royal Navy at Northwood on 12th June 1980.
At the same time the Main Bell of HMCS WARRIOR, which had been held by the Sea Cadet Unit T S Plymouth in North London, was presented to Admiral Allan for return to the Canadian Maritime Command.
